kernel security update
An update for kernel is now available for openEuler-20.03-LTS-SP1.
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
media: dvbdev: Fix memory leak in dvb_media_device_free()
dvb_media_device_free() is leaking memory. Free `dvbdev->adapter->conn`
before setting it to NULL, as documented in include/media/media-device.h:
"The media_entity instance itself must be freed explicitly by the driver
if required."(CVE-2020-36777)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
i2c: sprd: fix reference leak when pm_runtime_get_sync fails
The PM reference count is not expected to be incremented on
return in sprd_i2c_master_xfer() and sprd_i2c_remove().
However, pm_runtime_get_sync will increment the PM reference
count even failed. Forgetting to putting operation will result
in a reference leak here.
Replace it with pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage
counter balanced.(CVE-2020-36780)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
i2c: cadence: fix reference leak when pm_runtime_get_sync fails
The PM reference count is not expected to be incremented on
return in functions cdns_i2c_master_xfer and cdns_reg_slave.
However, pm_runtime_get_sync will increment pm usage counter
even failed. Forgetting to putting operation will result in a
reference leak here.
Replace it with pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage
counter balanced.(CVE-2020-36784)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: hso: fix null-ptr-deref during tty device unregistration
Multiple ttys try to claim the same the minor number causing a double
unregistration of the same device. The first unregistration succeeds
but the next one results in a null-ptr-deref.
The get_free_serial_index() function returns an available minor number
but doesn't assign it immediately. The assignment is done by the caller
later. But before this assignment, calls to get_free_serial_index()
would return the same minor number.
Fix this by modifying get_free_serial_index to assign the minor number
immediately after one is found to be and rename it to obtain_minor()
to better reflect what it does. Similary, rename set_serial_by_index()
to release_minor() and modify it to free up the minor number of the
given hso_serial. Every obtain_minor() should have corresponding
release_minor() call.(CVE-2021-46904)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
NFC: st21nfca: Fix memory leak in device probe and remove

Fix it by freeing 'pending_skb' in error and remove.(CVE-2021-46924)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ALSA: hda: intel-sdw-acpi: harden detection of controller
The existing code currently sets a pointer to an ACPI handle before
checking that it's actually a SoundWire controller. This can lead to
issues where the graph walk continues and eventually fails, but the
pointer was set already.
This patch changes the logic so that the information provided to
the caller is set when a controller is found.(CVE-2021-46926)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
parisc: Clear stale IIR value on instruction access rights trap
When a trap 7 (Instruction access rights) occurs, this means the CPU
couldn't execute an instruction due to missing execute permissions on
the memory region. In this case it seems the CPU didn't even fetched
the instruction from memory and thus did not store it in the cr19 (IIR)
register before calling the trap handler. So, the trap handler will find
some random old stale value in cr19.
This patch simply overwrites the stale IIR value with a constant magic
"bad food" value (0xbaadf00d), in the hope people don't start to try to
understand the various random IIR values in trap 7 dumps.(CVE-2021-46928)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
i2c: validate user data in compat ioctl
Wrong user data may cause warning in i2c_transfer(), ex: zero msgs.
Userspace should not be able to trigger warnings, so this patch adds
validation checks for user data in compact ioctl to prevent reported
warnings(CVE-2021-46934)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
binder: fix async_free_space accounting for empty parcels
In 4.13, commit 74310e06be4d ("android: binder: Move buffer out of area shared with user space")
fixed a kernel structure visibility issue. As part of that patch,
sizeof(void *) was used as the buffer size for 0-length data payloads so
the driver could detect abusive clients sending 0-length asynchronous
transactions to a server by enforcing limits on async_free_size.
Unfortunately, on the "free" side, the accounting of async_free_space
did not add the sizeof(void *) back. The result was that up to 8-bytes of
async_free_space were leaked on every async transaction of 8-bytes or
less. These small transactions are uncommon, so this accounting issue
has gone undetected for several years.
The fix is to use "buffer_size" (the allocated buffer size) instead of
"size" (the logical buffer size) when updating the async_free_space
during the free operation. These are the same except for this
corner case of asynchronous transactions with payloads < 8 bytes.(CVE-2021-46935)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
NFS: fs_context: validate UDP retrans to prevent shift out-of-bounds
Fix shift out-of-bounds in xprt_calc_majortimeo(). This is caused
by a garbage timeout (retrans) mount option being passed to nfs mount,
in this case from syzkaller.
If the protocol is XPRT_TRANSPORT_UDP, then 'retrans' is a shift
value for a 64-bit long integer, so 'retrans' cannot be >= 64.
If it is >= 64, fail the mount and return an error.(CVE-2021-46952)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
hfsplus: prevent corruption in shrinking truncate
I believe there are some issues introduced by commit 31651c607151
("hfsplus: avoid deadlock on file truncation")
HFS+ has extent records which always contains 8 extents. In case the
first extent record in catalog file gets full, new ones are allocated from
extents overflow file.
In case shrinking truncate happens to middle of an extent record which
locates in extents overflow file, the logic in hfsplus_file_truncate() was
changed so that call to hfs_brec_remove() is not guarded any more.
Right action would be just freeing the extents that exceed the new size
inside extent record by calling hfsplus_free_extents(), and then check if
the whole extent record should be removed. However since the guard
(blk_cnt > start) is now after the call to hfs_brec_remove(), this has
unfortunate effect that the last matching extent record is removed
unconditionally.
To reproduce this issue, create a file which has at least 10 extents, and
then perform shrinking truncate into middle of the last extent record, so
that the number of remaining extents is not under or divisible by 8. This
causes the last extent record (8 extents) to be removed totally instead of
truncating into middle of it. Thus this causes corruption, and lost data.
Fix for this is simply checking if the new truncated end is below the
start of this extent record, making it safe to remove the full extent
record. However call to hfs_brec_remove() can't be moved to it's previous
place since we're dropping ->tree_lock and it can cause a race condition
and the cached info being invalidated possibly corrupting the node data.
Another issue is related to this one. When entering into the block
(blk_cnt > start) we are not holding the ->tree_lock. We break out from
the loop not holding the lock, but hfs_find_exit() does unlock it. Not
sure if it's possible for someone else to take the lock under our feet,
but it can cause hard to debug errors and premature unlocking. Even if
there's no real risk of it, the locking should still always be kept in
balance. Thus taking the lock now just before the check.(CVE-2021-46989)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
phonet/pep: refuse to enable an unbound pipe
This ioctl() implicitly assumed that the socket was already bound to
a valid local socket name, i.e. Phonet object. If the socket was not
bound, two separate problems would occur:
1) We'd send an pipe enablement request with an invalid source object.
2) Later socket calls could BUG on the socket unexpectedly being
connected yet not bound to a valid object.(CVE-2021-47086)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
x86/kvm: Teardown PV features on boot CPU as well
Various PV features (Async PF, PV EOI, steal time) work through memory
shared with hypervisor and when we restore from hibernation we must
properly teardown all these features to make sure hypervisor doesn't
write to stale locations after we jump to the previously hibernated kernel
(which can try to place anything there). For secondary CPUs the job is
already done by kvm_cpu_down_prepare(), register syscore ops to do
the same for boot CPU.(CVE-2021-47112)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
btrfs: abort in rename_exchange if we fail to insert the second ref
Error injection stress uncovered a problem where we'd leave a dangling
inode ref if we failed during a rename_exchange. This happens because
we insert the inode ref for one side of the rename, and then for the
other side. If this second inode ref insert fails we'll leave the first
one dangling and leave a corrupt file system behind. Fix this by
aborting if we did the insert for the first inode ref.(CVE-2021-47113)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ocfs2: fix data corruption by fallocate
When fallocate punches holes out of inode size, if original isize is in
the middle of last cluster, then the part from isize to the end of the
cluster will be zeroed with buffer write, at that time isize is not yet
updated to match the new size, if writeback is kicked in, it will invoke
ocfs2_writepage()->block_write_full_page() where the pages out of inode
size will be dropped. That will cause file corruption. Fix this by
zero out eof blocks when extending the inode size.
Running the following command with qemu-image 4.2.1 can get a corrupted
coverted image file easily.
qemu-img convert -p -t none -T none -f qcow2 $qcow_image \
-O qcow2 -o compat=1.1 $qcow_image.conv
The usage of fallocate in qemu is like this, it first punches holes out
of inode size, then extend the inode size.
fallocate(11, FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE|FALLOC_FL_PUNCH_HOLE, 2276196352, 65536) = 0
fallocate(11, 0, 2276196352, 65536) = 0

net: caif: fix memory leak in caif_device_notify
In case of caif_enroll_dev() fail, allocated
link_support won't be assigned to the corresponding
structure. So simply free allocated pointer in case
of error(CVE-2021-47122)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
apparmor: avoid crash when parsed profile name is empty
When processing a packed profile in unpack_profile() described like
"profile :ns::samba-dcerpcd /usr/lib*/samba/{,samba/}samba-dcerpcd {...}"
a string ":samba-dcerpcd" is unpacked as a fully-qualified name and then
passed to aa_splitn_fqname().
aa_splitn_fqname() treats ":samba-dcerpcd" as only containing a namespace.
Thus it returns NULL for tmpname, meanwhile tmpns is non-NULL. Later
aa_alloc_profile() crashes as the new profile name is NULL now.

It seems such behaviour of aa_splitn_fqname() is expected and checked in
other places where it is called (e.g. aa_remove_profiles). Well, there
is an explicit comment "a ns name without a following profile is allowed"
inside.
AFAICS, nothing can prevent unpacked "name" to be in form like
":samba-dcerpcd" - it is passed from userspace.
Deny the whole profile set replacement in such case and inform user with
EPROTO and an explaining message.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drivers/amd/pm: fix a use-after-free in kv_parse_power_table
When ps allocated by kzalloc equals to NULL, kv_parse_power_table
frees adev->pm.dpm.ps that allocated before. However, after the control
flow goes through the following call chains:
kv_parse_power_table
|-> kv_dpm_init
|-> kv_dpm_sw_init
|-> kv_dpm_fini
The adev->pm.dpm.ps is used in the for loop of kv_dpm_fini after its
first free in kv_parse_power_table and causes a use-after-free bug.(CVE-2023-52469)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
perf/x86/lbr: Filter vsyscall addresses
We found that a panic can occur when a vsyscall is made while LBR sampling
is active. If the vsyscall is interrupted (NMI) for perf sampling, this
call sequence can occur (most recent at top):
__insn_get_emulate_prefix()
insn_get_emulate_prefix()
insn_get_prefixes()
insn_get_opcode()
decode_branch_type()
get_branch_type()
intel_pmu_lbr_filter()
intel_pmu_handle_irq()
perf_event_nmi_handler()
Within __insn_get_emulate_prefix() at frame 0, a macro is called:
peek_nbyte_next(insn_byte_t, insn, i)
Within this macro, this dereference occurs:
(insn)->next_byte
Inspecting registers at this point, the value of the next_byte field is the
address of the vsyscall made, for example the location of the vsyscall
version of gettimeofday() at 0xffffffffff600000. The access to an address
in the vsyscall region will trigger an oops due to an unhandled page fault.
To fix the bug, filtering for vsyscalls can be done when
determining the branch type. This patch will return
a "none" branch if a kernel address if found to lie in the
vsyscall region.(CVE-2023-52476)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: nfc: fix races in nfc_llcp_sock_get() and nfc_llcp_sock_get_sn()
Sili Luo reported a race in nfc_llcp_sock_get(), leading to UAF.
Getting a reference on the socket found in a lookup while
holding a lock should happen before releasing the lock.
nfc_llcp_sock_get_sn() has a similar problem.
Finally nfc_llcp_recv_snl() needs to make sure the socket
found by nfc_llcp_sock_from_sn() does not disappear.(CVE-2023-52502)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ravb: Fix use-after-free issue in ravb_tx_timeout_work()
The ravb_stop() should call cancel_work_sync(). Otherwise,
ravb_tx_timeout_work() is possible to use the freed priv after
ravb_remove() was called like below:
CPU0 CPU1
ravb_tx_timeout()
ravb_remove()
unregister_netdev()
free_netdev(ndev)
// free priv
ravb_tx_timeout_work()
// use priv
unregister_netdev() will call .ndo_stop() so that ravb_stop() is
called. And, after phy_stop() is called, netif_carrier_off()
is also called. So that .ndo_tx_timeout() will not be called
after phy_stop().(CVE-2023-52509)

The issue is caused when the value of fsi becomes less than -1.
The check to break the loop when fsi value becomes -1 is present
but syzbot was able to produce value less than -1 which cause the error.
This patch simply add the change for the values less than 0.
The patch is tested via syzbot.(CVE-2023-52603)
Integer Overflow or Wraparound vulnerability in Linux Linux kernel kernel on Linux, x86, ARM (md, raid, raid5 modules) allows Forced Integer Overflow.(CVE-2024-23307)
A race condition was found in the Linux kernel's scsi device driver in lpfc_unregister_fcf_rescan() function. This can result in a null pointer dereference issue, possibly leading to a kernel panic or denial of service issue.

Let's fix the issue by checking for send_srp() and set_vbus() before
calling them. For USB peripheral only cases these both could be NULL.(CVE-2024-26600)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
binder: signal epoll threads of self-work
In (e)poll mode, threads often depend on I/O events to determine when
data is ready for consumption. Within binder, a thread may initiate a
command via BINDER_WRITE_READ without a read buffer and then make use
of epoll_wait() or similar to consume any responses afterwards.
It is then crucial that epoll threads are signaled via wakeup when they
queue their own work. Otherwise, they risk waiting indefinitely for an
event leaving their work unhandled. What is worse, subsequent commands
won't trigger a wakeup either as the thread has pending work.(CVE-2024-26606)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
tomoyo: fix UAF write bug in tomoyo_write_control()
Since tomoyo_write_control() updates head->write_buf when write()
of long lines is requested, we need to fetch head->write_buf after
head->io_sem is held. Otherwise, concurrent write() requests can
cause use-after-free-write and double-free problems.(CVE-2024-26622)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
llc: call sock_orphan() at release time
syzbot reported an interesting trace [1] caused by a stale sk->sk_wq
pointer in a closed llc socket.
In commit ff7b11aa481f ("net: socket: set sock->sk to NULL after
calling proto_ops::release()") Eric Biggers hinted that some protocols
are missing a sock_orphan(), we need to perform a full audit.
In net-next, I plan to clear sock->sk from sock_orphan() and
amend Eric patch to add a warning.

Every obtain_minor() should have corresponding
release_minor() call.

As part of that patch,sizeof(void *) was used as the buffer size for 0-length data payloads sothe driver could detect abusive clients sending 0-length asynchronoustransactions to a server by enforcing limits on async_free_size.Unfortunately, on the free side, the accounting of async_free_spacedid not add the sizeof(void *) back. The result was that up to 8-bytes ofasync_free_space were leaked on every async transaction of 8-bytes orless. These small transactions are uncommon, so this accounting issuehas gone undetected for several years.The fix is to use buffer_size (the allocated buffer size) instead of size (the logical buffer size) when updating the async_free_spaceduring the free operation. These are the same except for thiscorner case of asynchronous transactions with payloads < 8 bytes.

Even if
there's no real risk of it, the locking should still always be kept in
balance. Thus taking the lock now just before the check.

ocfs2: fix data corruption by fallocate
When fallocate punches holes out of inode size, if original isize is in
the middle of last cluster, then the part from isize to the end of the
cluster will be zeroed with buffer write, at that time isize is not yet
updated to match the new size, if writeback is kicked in, it will invoke
ocfs2_writepage()->block_write_full_page() where the pages out of inode
size will be dropped. That will cause file corruption. Fix this by
zero out eof blocks when extending the inode size.
Running the following command with qemu-image 4.2.1 can get a corrupted
coverted image file easily.

perf/x86/lbr: Filter vsyscall addresses
We found that a panic can occur when a vsyscall is made while LBR sampling
is active. If the vsyscall is interrupted (NMI) for perf sampling, this
call sequence can occur (most recent at top):
__insn_get_emulate_prefix()
insn_get_emulate_prefix()
insn_get_prefixes()
insn_get_opcode()
decode_branch_type()
get_branch_type()
intel_pmu_lbr_filter()
intel_pmu_handle_irq()
perf_event_nmi_handler()
Within __insn_get_emulate_prefix() at frame 0, a macro is called:
peek_nbyte_next(insn_byte_t, insn, i)
Within this macro, this dereference occurs:
(insn)->next_byte
This patch will return
a "none" branch if a kernel address if found to lie in the
vsyscall region.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: nfc: fix races in nfc_llcp_sock_get() and nfc_llcp_sock_get_sn()
Sili Luo reported a race in nfc_llcp_sock_get(), leading to UAF.
Getting a reference on the socket found in a lookup while
holding a lock should happen before releasing the lock.
nfc_llcp_sock_get_sn() has a similar problem.
Finally nfc_llcp_recv_snl() needs to make sure the socket
found by nfc_llcp_sock_from_sn() does not disappear.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ravb: Fix use-after-free issue in ravb_tx_timeout_work()
The ravb_stop() should call cancel_work_sync(). Otherwise,
ravb_tx_timeout_work() is possible to use the freed priv after
ravb_remove() was called like below:
CPU0 CPU1
ravb_tx_timeout()
ravb_remove()
unregister_netdev()
free_netdev(ndev)
// free priv
ravb_tx_timeout_work()
// use priv
unregister_netdev() will call .ndo_stop() so that ravb_stop() is
called. And, after phy_stop() is called, netif_carrier_off()
is also called. So that .ndo_tx_timeout() will not be called
after phy_stop().

When the agstart is too large, it can cause agno overflow.
[Fix]
After obtaining agno, if the value is invalid, exit the subsequent process.
Modified the test from agno > MAXAG to agno >= MAXAG based on linux-next
report by kernel test robot (Dan Carpenter).

What is worse, subsequent commands
won't trigger a wakeup either as the thread has pending work.
